I just home from seeing I Can Do Bad All By Myself. Let me starting by saying. If you don't like Tyler Perry movies or plays, or TV shows you more then likely wont like this one either. I am going to ask you to go see it anyway you might come out of the movie theaters different then you came in. Now if are a Perry fan like I am you love this movie Madea catches 3 kids trying to rob her house, then she takes them to stay with their aunt April played by Taraji P Hensen, Taraji proves she can carry a movie. if it were up to me she would go back to the Academy awards this time she would win. <more>
yes , Taraji is that good in this movie. Hope Wilson gives a star making performance as Jenifer. Gladyce Knight was great in the this movie, Pastor Marvin Winans gives a great performance as the Pastor Adam Rodrigez from CSI Miami is a good leading man here. Mary J Brige is awesome as Tanya. Madea and Joe played by Tyler are very funny in this. Tyler Perry dose an excellent job on this movies this is his best movie.
Unlike most of Tyler's fans, I have not enjoyed most of the plays that I have seen on video. On the other hand, I am a big fan of his movies because in my opinion, they have been produced on a much higher and professional level. All of the acting was superb, but Hope gave an Oscar winning performance as Jennifer. In this movie, parts that were meant to be funny, were really funny and parts that were meant to be serious, were really serious and truly reflected the Black experience. I had gotten my money's worth after Gladys Knight had sung her first song. Being a music lover and a <more>
Marvin Winans fan, I was in the clouds after hearing him and that awesome choir.I was so "full" after seeing this movie that I was about to bust wide open as I left the theater. I will see it again, buy the DVD and the Soundtrack. It is a must see movie!
This movie is a definite "go see." From time to time Tyler Perry's director and writing skills can be sketchy. The story line does not always flow on some of his movies. But this is not one of those. The acting, writing and directing was on point. Tyler definitely got several messages through this movie. Whether it was about the aunt's selfishness and stunted capability to love and express that love. Or about child molestation and how we can sometimes turn a blind eye toward it. Message about loving without requiring ulterior motives. And about faith in God. Some people may <more>
not like this movie because it definitely has a God-driven message whether you like it or not . But it is a beautifully put together movie with great acting everyone was on point that will encourage you. It definitely encouraged me.
This movie was really good and i would advise anyone to go watch it....the fact that in the movie it had moments where you will feel very emotional and the next moment you are laughing made it very interesting to me. i will go and watch it again!!.......this is one of the best movies he has made....it is a movie you can learn from though it is still a typical Tyler Perry movie.....always educational and yet maintaining the funny moments....once again i love this movie ....as a matter of fact all the folks that sat beside me both left and right had to shed tears in some emotional parts of the <more>
movie....i tried to hold back mine..loll,i can't wait for his next movie
The person who called this drivel never saw the film, guaranteed. The actors in this film are stunning, and the story is touching and real. Oscar nominated Taraji P. Henson not only carries the dramatic arc of the main character's transformation, she also kicks butt in her singing performance as self-centered club singer April. Mary J. Blige and Gladys Knight and Marvin Winans all deliver the goods in their acting and then blow the roof off with their singing performances. And Hope Olaide Wilson's performance as 16 year old toughie Jennifer is simply remarkable. You can't quite <more>
grasp how remarkable it is until you watch an interview with her off camera and realize how completely and totally her character was invented. Totally convincing as the unwanted daughter of an American crack addict, with a nasty-ass inner city attitude and a volcano of anger inside, it's mind boggling to find out afterwards she is a luminous, joyful young woman who was classically trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and who naturally speaks with a lilting British accent. I will take bets on this... you will see her accepting an Academy Award one day. Absolutely brilliant. Like Meryl Streep / Kate Blanchett / Nicole Kidman There are 6 full musical performances in this film, by Henson, Blige, Knight, and Winans, and they are better integrated into the story, more organically placed and more suited to the story than in any film I can recall. So it's not a "musical" per se, but a drama with humor and musical performances incorporated. And it works well.I had never seen a "Madea" film before, nor anything of Tyler Perry's. To be honest, if I had known Madea was in the film I might have missed this gem, because I probably would not have watched it. I'm not into genre films or drag queen humor. I watched it because of the cast list. But although Madea appears in the film, it's as a supporting character. Fortunately. Because the Madea scenes are the weakest overall, and kind of rubbed me the wrong way in the context of the more naturalistic style of the rest of the film. Still, even Shakespeare used buffoonish clowns at various times to move the action along, so I think we can forgive Tyler Perry for boosting the box office appeal with a proved draw.So I would not call this a Madea movie, nor would I label it an African American movie. Those labels are deceptively limiting. It's much bigger than you might expect. It is a very effective and entertaining drama with music and comedy that touches deeply on the human condition, and affirms the transformative power of love... both romantic and spiritual love. And it deserves a wider audience. And better reviews than someone who hasn't actually seen the film would give it.
My Film review: I can do bad all by myself (by mk-baby7)
I can do bad all by myself is a film directed by Tyler Perry starring Taraji P. Henson, Adam Rodriguez a CSI Miami character , Pastor Marvin Winans , Mary J. Blige R&B Singer and Tyler Perry himself as Madea and Joe. This film was nominated three times and won one Oscar. The story is about Madea who catches a sixteen year old girl with her two brothers on stealing. She decides to handle the situation on her own way and leave the children to their only relative, their aunt April Taraji P. Henson . The aunt seems to be night outgoing drinker and singer that is struggling through <more>
life, but with a little faith and the help of a handsome young Mexican man named Sandino Adam Rodriguez April receives a second chance from the Lord to make her life better. I can do bad all by myself is dramatic comedy based on everyday stories of several afro Americans who grew up in rough neighbourhoods and had to fight their way out of this lifestyle. I think it's an awesome film, I've watched it three times. The soundtracks are really good and the storyline is really powerful for every lost soul whom lost their sight of life. If I have to rate this film I'd give it a 9/10 because I believe that every good or bad experience has a positive purpose for our lives, you just have to keep your faith up. And that is the message that Tyler Perry clearly demonstrates in the film.
I just saw this movie today and I have to tell you that I loved it. The storyline, while similar to other productions of Mr. Perry has a completely different perspective. This movie is about faith, love, family and friendship with all the associated struggles. The opening scene grabbed my attention and the story held it through the whole movie. I laughed, cried, I got angry the characters really pulled me into their life experiences and I was entertained.Madea and Joe were funny as usual. The character played by Taraji Henson I alternatively wanted to hate and comfort. The children were <more>
positively adorable and Adam Rodrijuez was smokin' hot.Worth seeing, I will probably see it again. I score this 8/10.
I really enjoyed this movie. I went to be entertained and don't mind seeing the same plot line again and again. There were no car crashes, no blood and guts, just a clear story line that I could follow. The characters grew during the course of the movie. There was a clear beginning, middle and ending. Even though I could figure out the end, I was curious how Tyler Perry was to portray it. It was fun and pleasant. Had me dancing in my seat. The cast was great, the music was great, the emotions ranged from laughter to tears. Tyler Perry is able to combine great entertainers in a single <more>
movie.I have seen move of Tyler Perry's movies and look forward to more.Keep them coming Tyler Perry. I support you.
Saw the movie and it was good... (by ninjacatprincess)
I saw the movie and thought it was good - and not great. Tyler Perry knows his audience and yes, he writes about the same issues because these issues have yet to be resolved in society: failure to pay child support, the molestation of children, physicial abuse, drug use and poverty.I like Tyler Perry and I will continue to see his movies and pay full price due to the facts above. He is not afraid to "put it all out there". So many writers are interested in success - they will give you nothing for a formulaic movie: lots of sex, violence, drug use, crazy car chases and music. I saw <more>
the movies which followed the original "the Fast and the Furious" and thought "what drivel...how many times is the same movie gonna be remade"? How about some substance for a change? Now, don't get me wrong: If you're out for a good time with a new date and simply want to have fun - don't go see the movie. See something lighter like Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs which was another movie playing. It's a light-hearted children's comedy and it won't offend or scare off anyone who is upset at the mention of religion or taboo subjects like children who get molested and the mother may know and tell the kid to shut up because "what happens in this house stays in this house". I can understand the American need for a happy ending in all movies or movies which paint the sunny side of life. But where are the movies for folks who are living these freakin' nightmares? The fact of the matter is you cannot avoid reality forever. Society is full of nasty little secrets. Tyler Perry is simply very gifted and not afraid to address them in his plays and movies. Wish more writers had the guts to do the same...
